VWP Stretch Class: Why You Should Come!
We’re offering a new group class Tuesday evenings from 6:15-7pm and would love to have you join us! Dawn is teaching it, bringing her Pilates background and experience working with stretching, breathing, and core strength.
The class focuses on increasing flexibility and relaxation, and working on breathing and core strength. Most people take breathing for granted, and forget how great it feels to just take a few deep breaths!
You can try it right now – take 5 slow, deep breaths, breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth, closing your eyes if you want to. Keep the breaths gentle but deep, not forcing or holding them. Let your chest and stomach expand as you inhale and fall as you exhale. Add a shoulder shrug to decrease tension in your neck and shoulders – lift the shoulders towards the ears with the inhale, and bring them down with the exhale.
These should go a long way to helping you feel more relaxed and calm! They are great to do a few times a day if you tend to carry a lot of stress in your shoulders and neck or do a lot of computer work. Let us know if you try them!
The class expands on just breathing to connect with deep core muscles that most of us don’t know we have (transverse abdominis, pelvic floor, and psoas). These muscles act as an internal corset, protecting the spine and supporting the whole upper body. Because core strength is essential for safe, efficient movement, you are at risk for injury if you don’t understand and take care of your core.
The class runs on a drop-in basis, so just let us know if you’re interested in coming. You can start at any time – just bring a yoga mat and foam roller, and wear comfortable clothes. Come and try it out! You’ll leave feeling great!

What to Wear:
Comfortable clothing you can move and stretch in (gym or yoga clothes). A light extra layer might be good for the beginning/end of the class in case you get cold.
